Leisure and tourism in the area

Whether you're staying in a gîte or a bed and breakfast, your peace and quiet is your first luxury... On this page, you'll find details of the leisure activities available locally, local walks and hikes, and an overview of what's on offer in the surrounding area (Pays de Brocéliande) and, more generally, in Brittany.
There's also a 'perpetual calendar' of festivals and other events, so you'll always know what's going on at the time of your stay. Enjoy!

Leisure activities available locally

At La Basse Bouëxière, a range of leisure activities is at your disposal:

  • a small library (in the family room and in the bedroom of our house): documentaries on Brittany, gardening, novels...
  • outdoor games (swing, shuffleboard, boules) and board games;
  • access (by road) to an 8-hectare wooded area with a hiking trail;
  • television (27 DTT channels);
  • the opportunity to visit the animals or the garden.

Restaurants less than 15 km away

In your room you'll find a list of restaurants with their opening days and a map of food-trucks in the area...

Walking and riding routes

La Basse Bouëxière is an ideal base for walking, cycling or horse-riding. The greenway from Dinan to Vannes is just 1km away on a shared road, while the car-free section with disabled access starts 5km away. The GR37 is also less than a kilometre away (2 hours' walk to the Lampouy alignments to the north, and 2 hours to the Montauban national forest to the south), and a local footpath takes you to the magnificent Néal valley in 2 hours. Other loops are possible, please ask us for advice.

Other ideas for walks:

  • Fitness trail: just outside the village of Médréac in the direction of Bécherel (car park 3 km away);
  • Forêt domaniale de Montauban (car park 3 km away) with its central path and side and ring paths for looping around depending on the time available...
  • Tour of the Pont-Ruffier lake at Le Hinglé (18 km), a magnificent dam that supplies Dinan with drinking water...
  • Tour of Lac de Bétineuc (20 km), 1 hour's easy walk, with the option of a coffee or a meal at the guiguette in season (car park, toilets).
  • Tour of Lac de Trémelin (22 km), 1.5 hours' easy walk, with the option of a coffee or meal at the lake restaurant in season (car park, toilets, tourist office, accrobranche, etc.)...

Nearby attractions (Pays de Brocéliande...)

Cafés: by Arnaud and Marie in the village of Médréac (1.5 km), the Vélorail café at Médréac station (1 km), Diane's "Casino" in St-M'Hervon (3 km)...

Media libraries: Médréac and Montauban

Leisure and picnic areas: at Bois-Gébert in Médréac (with a fitness trail), around the small Guitté pond (5 km, with two miniature mills), at the Montauban ponds (games, zip-line, skate-park).

Here are just a few examples of our rich heritage:

  • the megalithic alignments at Lampouy (4 km from Médréac, in the direction of Guitté) bear witness to 4,500 years of agricultural history, and make for a lovely half-hour walk along the site, with beautiful views over the countryside and the start of a Roman road; guided tours are organised in summer by the CPIE;
  • the Chapelle de Lanelou (4 km from Médréac, in the direction of La Brohinière) offers a glimpse of rural life in the 15th century and is an ideal destination or stop-off point for walks and cycle rides, for example in combination with the Montauban national forest;
  • le château médiéval de Montauban (à 5 km, privé, se visite lors des Journées du Patrimoine) ;
  • le village fortifié de Bécherel (à 12 km), cité des guerres de succession de Bretagne et désormais « Cité du livre », riche de ses libraires ; entrez dans l'église pour son acoustique, descendez au lavoir pour imaginer la vie des lavandières ;
  • La biennale des "Etangs d'art", installations artistiques sur une quinzaine de plans d'eau du Pays de Brocéliande (en 2018, 2020, etc.).
  • the medieval castle of Montauban (5 km away, private, can be visited during the Heritage Days);
  • the fortified village of Bécherel (12 km away), site of the wars of the succession of Brittany and now the "City of Books", with its wealth of booksellers; enter the church for its acoustics, go down to the wash-house to imagine the life of the washerwomen;
  • the biennial "Etangs d'art", artistic installations on some fifteen lakes in the Brocéliande region (in 2018, 2020, etc.).
